Financial Support & Fund-raising

Financial support is derived from the Diocese of St. Petersburg, tuition and fees, Parents' Auxiliary, Friends of Morning Star, the annual Morning Star Golf Classic, Morning Star Tennis Classic, and Morning Star Gala. Donations from individuals, organizations, and civic groups are also solicited to cover the actual cost of the education of students. All contributions are tax deductible. Families of students enrolled at Morning Star School are expected to be actively involved in the activities of the Morning Star community. Enthusiastic and consistent involvement of parents is critical to the success of students attending Morning Star School.

Smart Giving

Have you ever considered making a donation of common stock or other securities to Morning Star School? This type of giving can have significant advantages over the common method of a cash donation. The IRS allows the donation of an appreciated stock, held for a year or more, to be deducted at its current market value, instead of its original value.

For example, suppose that you wished to give a $500 gift to Morning Star and to do this, you decided to sell some stock. Normally, you would have to sell stock, pay a commission, and then pay taxes on the gain. You would have to sell stock worth more than the $500 cash donation that you wished to give.

However by donating the stock, you could in this example take a $500 tax deduction and pay no taxes and no commission charges. Using this method saves you the "costs" of making a contribution.

It is not necessary for you to obtain stock certificates for the amount that you want to give for securities held in your account in "street name." Most stock brokers can wire securities from one account to another using what is known as a DTC number. This is accomplished easily and usually at little or no charge. Contact your tax consultant and/or stock broker for details if this form of giving appeals to you.
